I recently purchased my 03 cobra, it has MM coilovers all the way around. When I first got it, I thought I could tuff out the noise, BUT I CAN'T. They are just obnoxious loud and creaking and popping constantly. Are they all like this?

Umm.....no.

:dw:

I have MM coilovers on all 4 corners and they don't make a peep. The road noise is more than it was before I installed them, but I don't have any creaks or pops.

The creaking is probably from the steering rack bushings. If it has the MM ones, the bolts are probably just a tad loose. Tighten the rack bolts and your creak will probably go away(assuming you had the same creaks I was going through).

As for the popping of what I'm assuming is the springs. I tried re-greasing the needle bearing. Helps a little.

Mine pop from time to time but over all not to noisey.........what I did was wrap the strut with none skid you put in tool boxes then heated it up a little to shrink around the strut (kinda didn't work as planned) then forced the coilover tube on. With the coilover tube so tight it can't rattle against the strut but I still get the popping once in awhile.

I don't have MM coilovers I have upr with Lakewood 90/10 struts and the coilover to strut fit wasn't the best.

Any time you make suspension parts stiffer your going to get more noise.

My advise, remove the cats and you wont hear any of them.

Mine are silent. It's hard to tell what the popping is without looking them over but that is definitely not normal.

Thanks guys for replies, it's like a loud creaking noise coming from trunk area. It's just horribly loud and obnoxious. Really getting to a point as I don't even want to drive it as much

I have upper and lower rear control arms with solid bushings and they creak horribly. Possibly the same issue on yours?
I've bought replacement arms with good bushings, but haven't taken the time to install them yet.

It's driving me Insane. Drove it again today and I can't take it. How hard would it be for me to switch to just regular springs? Like some h&r sports. Had them on my last cobra and really liked them

Pull the struts and shocks, remove all the coilover pieces and reinstall with regular springs. That's assuming that you have a-arms with the spring provisions still.

what the hell..that looks ghetto engineered!..have you looked underneath to see what brand the shocks are?

edit... I just saw the video.. i can see how the noise would be too much.. for me its unacceptable.. if you were in a track car, ok.. a DD.. fail... You didnt hear this racket when you test drove the car prior to buying it?

Anyway, you need to put it up in the air and take an assessment of what aftermarket parts are on the car, and put a wrench on every nut and bolt... I had to tighten every single bolt the previous owner touched... the driveshaft bolts came off with the weight of the wrench!!!!!!!!!

I have D&D coil over on the SVO.. they make a flippen racket.. I called up and spoke with MM.. they can guarantee that their coil overs don't make noise if set up properly.... and four rubber spacers is not properly... I dont even see how that is possible since the stud is part of the shock... how does one shock have a longer stud?? viagra?

It did not make as much noise. It was very little. It's has gotten worse. All that was hidden and I didn't think to pull out all the carpet out of the trunk to look at them.

There is something wrong with the side with the 4 donuts/spacers.. your going to need to raise the car up in the air and see what you have to work with... does the "short" side have the three donuts on the bottom of the car?

the short side "driver side" looks normal... but the pass side..negative!!
