On my '03 GT, the hood scoop has faded and the rest of the car has not. Is there anything that you guys can think of that might bring it back or make it look a bit better?

I have searched the forum, and i guess i cannot tell if its faded or oxidized. It looks dull and has some white spots on it (very light white). This is a black car.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks.

If i do not have a machine, will a polishing sequence by hand make a noticable difference?

Just block out a weekend to do it. It would help if you posted pictures.

White spots sound like clear coat failure. If it is, you're SOL.

Sounds like oxidation... you may have failing clearcoat. Keep in mind that the scoop might be painted separately.

Try a Pre-Wax Cleaner such as Mothers, a white polishing compound or product like ColorX by Meguiar's. I believe black would have a clearcoat in 2003 -- Inspect your progress that you don't have breaching of the clearcoat -- meaning, you'll start seeing black on your applicator on the area where the clearcoat might be disappearing. Protect with wax or a cleaner wax. You might just have to live with it and plan for a repaint.
