We moved into this house in May of 2008 and the front of the house really needed something. So we decided to add a porch and some shutters. Here's the before and after.

Looked too plain before or like something was missing and I think the porch gives the house more depth and the shutters make it not so plain.

good call on both additions... you really can't go wrong with a nice porch on a house
