Exhaust Emitting Excessive Noise

i got pulled over by a CHP officer this morning for my exhaust being too loud. He said that it was illegal to modify your exhaust louder than stock. Is this true? i thought some maggies were 50 state legal? i need to get my fix-it ticket signed off, but what exactly do i need to do to fix it and how does the officer tell how loud it is and if its legal?

That's the law in Ga too.

Your signature states you have an O/R x-pipe, I would start by removing that. It's not fifty-state legal for use on a highway.

well i know that my o/r X was not legal and i took a chance with that, im gonna remove it and put the stock one back on. but i was wondering if you thought that my magnapacks alone would still be too loud? or should i try and get some regular maggies to throw in there for know?
