Drones have changed the future of all kinds of warfare. Not sure if anyone is following the Ukraine war much but recently 5 Abrahms tanks got wacked, all by drones. To be fair they were disabled but Ukraine is withdrawing a lot of tanks.

The Russians have gone with the turtle tank which is having some success. The death of the tank has been predicted before but never have so many faces each other without direct fighting each other.

Will electronic warfare save the tank or will tanks get its own mini anti drone machine gun like a CWIS or a mobile CWIS escort?

Whatcha thinking?

The tank was supposed to have died in 1916. But here we are.

Technology will continue to evolve, future tanks may end up with all sorts of radar and drone jammers, etc

At the end of the day the dead for an armored, multi terrain vehicle that can provide direct fire will continue.

These laser advancements might come to the rescue.

There has to be an armored vehicle to deploy to hostile areas. That armored vehicle has to have the capability to shoot things with a really big gun. Eventually soldiers have to be on the ground and will need support of such a vehicle. The strategy of how tanks are deployed might change but the need will be there, until AI soldiers come along to do the corrupt government’s bidding, and ultimately turn on the corrupt government.

not at my post...
Just because it’s vulnerable doesn’t mean it’s obsolete…infantry has been vulnerable from the start for thousands of years… I think the battle space and how both sides are using tanks is less than ideal for many reasons. Once the done threat can be mitigated with ease, we won’t see so many MBTs turned into scrap.

Any concept of IFVs with laser guns? Tanks have a lot of limitations and vulnerabilities. Terrain, weather-soil, water crossings, urban areas, and now drones.

Maybe small EMP shields to counter these cheap and effect drones.

I would imagine that every active anti-drone system in the pipeline that can be attached to a tank turret is having money thrown at it.

I think as long as there is infantry then there will be various ground vehicles to include tanks. Having tanks to be able to support infantry in MOUT settings is too valuable.

Or an active targeting system like a Trophy system that IDs them and shoots them out of the air without the crew even needing to be involved. They can intercept an RPG so I don't see why they couldn't create a system that could ID before they get in range and hit them with a canister shell or something. It would need to be cost efficient since the drones will be plentiful and possibly come in swarms.

I see your line of thinking. Simple things like Apple kid locator being on each drone as a sort of blue force tracker or identify friend or foe codes to make sure we are early detection and destruction of enemy systems.
