OK lol I own a 98 cobra...so now i'm debating on whether to get 4.10 or 4.30's...now here is what i'm debating...this car is my DD, but I drive to school and to work...school is about 8 min away and work is about 15-20 (depending on traffic)..but here's my other worry. What RPM will I be cruising at say 65,70,75, and what if I do plan on maybe some nitrous later in the future?:coolman:....annndd what's a top speed on either gear?

thnx guys I would really appreciate it....:)

for optimal acceleration 456s with a 28 tall tire for DD mode and a 26 tall tire for track if you're into racing

26 tall will give you best ET and 28 will offset rpms a little for the street. same setup will be great for n20 as well

and with either gear your cars top speed will not be effected by gear but rather power/areos. use the calculator and don't quote me on this but I think I remember topping out at 130ish in 4th with 456s/28 tall tire

Don't fear the gear, or the search bar. You're gonna get 10% saying 3.73s even tho you didn't even mention them, I've noticed a solid 60% will say 4.10s and the rest will say 4.30 and up. I had 3.73s and switched to 4.10s but almost wish I would have gone 4.30s and my car is my DD

Whatever you decide personally anything 4.10 and up. Good luck op

alot of "us" got better mileage with 456s around the city then 410s and 456s with a 28 tall tire is similar to 410s/430s

my 410 to 456 swap was good for .3 et and 3mph

I love how years after joining this forum the topic of gears still comes up at least every other week :D

I had 4.10 gears in my 96 Cobra and they just felt "right" to me for my car. If you're debating between 4.10 and 4.30 though, go with the 4.30 I don't believe for one second that you'd regret it.

:lol: i said the same thing.

OP honestly you should go with 4.30s and dont look back. although i have 4.10s in my car but after driving a buddies car with 4.30s just made me want to step up my gearing as well.

Ok, being that this question has come up (again), who makes good 4.30 gears for the 8.8? Ford Racing offers 4.10's or 4.56's.

I'm wanting to get gears for my Cobra, but it's only been to the track once, so I don't really need 4.56's. I'd prefer to have 4.30's, but my choices have been limited to 4.10's and 4.56's, when choosing the Ford Racing gear sets.

No offense but have a laundry list of problems with the cat in another thread and your worried about greats lol. Get the car running right first. No sense throwing money at mods until you have everything fixed first

I have a 96' that had 4.30's when I first bought it. Driving to school, Id turn about 2,000rpm at 50-ish, 2,400 at around 55-60. It would pass everything but a gas station.... they wore the rear out really bad, went to 3.55's when I rebulit...

If your gonna spray the car id get 4.10s and get a 28 tall drag radial
and why do you say that?

you think the numerical number of the gear is the cause of wearing out the rear?

i drove 20,000 miles with 456s...guess i missed that memo
coming from one of the few people that will post who has ACTUALLY gone from stock to 410s to 456s i can guarentee mpg wont drop at all around the city with the steeper gearing unless you go from driving like a grandma to a jackass all the time. most people, including myself report BETTER mpg
