well i was drivin home from school and i punch it on the on ramp, then like five seconds later i see a eagle talon come up next to me, so i say to myself this guys gonna get killed. so i down it to third and i pull from him but not as hard as i expected, so i bring it up to 160 and still not too far behind. does anyone know what these cars are capable of. it was pretty fast i mean it didn't beat me but it was the closest race i've ever had

check out dsmtuners.com. these cars are very dangerous. watch out for the awd eclipses or talons. very familiar cause brother owns a 350fwhp gst. very underated cars. very strong

seeing those listings, I'm so mad at myself for trading in my 89 Plymouth Colt. It apparently has A LOT of performance potential. WOW!! A few are running 11s!! :rockon:
yeah, I wouldn't be surprised though if a lot of those colts swapped in an engine from a dsm (4g63) with a big turbo, supporting mods, and race gas to run those times. There's no denying the potential of that combination, even on stock internals 11's aren't very difficult with that setup. And before anyone questions the reliability, tell that to some of my firiends with over $100k miles.
I'm sure the one ray encountered had a similar setup as I suggest above. There are some fast dsms around, it's the crappy looking ones with the dents and body falling off that you shouldn't underestimate.

This is why I like DSM owners. So many DSM cars look like welfare racecars.
Too bad they made N/A DSM vehicles. The turbocharged cars respond well to mods and deserve respect, the N/A cars respond well to bodykits and deserve ridicule.

Actually the AWD one's are not light at all. My friend has an older one (AWD) and he said it weighted 3800lbs! Not to hard to make really fast.
BS! They don't weight that much. They weight 3200's. A friend of mine has one and is running 11.2's @ 124mph.
Correct the AWD ones weight around 3200 and the FWD around 3000lbs.

On a side note, the 1st generation (the boxy one , not the "round ed" one) are considered more responsive to mods due to their higher flowing head for one.

The Talon/Eclipse were in the 31xx lbs range.
The Laser was closer to 3000 lbs.
That's fully equipped and with the weight of an AWD drivetrain.
Simple weight reduction puts them under 3000 lbs.
