E brake light

Ok so the other day while driving I was slowing down and my E brake light lit up on the dash. I thought it was just a one time thing but it keeps happening when I hit the brake relatively hard but stomping it. Is this a sign that my brake pads are worn or has anyone had this problem before?

Check brake fluid level. then also check pads.
As the pads wear (Both front and rear) the level drops, there is a level switch on the MC that will trip the light.
