I've done quite a bit with expensive high-end R/C aircraft and plastic models including 3000+ part model car kits. (my next project is a 38" long Nimitz with 90 aircraft and 3500+ detail parts added-including interiors for every plane). But if you want to check out something cool to display with no effort, some of these models from BBI and 21'st century are pretty damn good looking for minimal cost. The friggin 3' long F-18 and F-16's with retractable gear and armement for under 100 bucks can't be beat. I am ordering one of these guys to hang over my computer desk....
I am pretty obsessive and do not think twice about getting something like a 1/8 F40 with all the detail kits easilly costing over $1500 total. The stuff here rocks if you wanted a convincing model and do not want to spend the time. 21'st centruy's P-38 lighting in 1:18 scale is incredible too. 50 to 100 bucks is a bargain.
