do i need this part?

I shredded a belt and ended up taking the hoodliner off since it was damaged so badly.
there is a smal metal stap that attatches from the side of the engine bay to the hood, it looks like some sort of ground to the hood but I really dont know what for.
can i leave it off or does it need to be there?

It reduces engine noise so you don't hear it on the am radio stations. If you notice, the braided wire connects to the foil on the underside of the hood liner. Our hoods are composite material (non-metal) and this keeps interference down.
