Difficult shifting into first.

What would make it difficult shifting into first gear when the engine is running. When engine off it goes in fine.... this just started happening.

Could be that the synchros are going out in your transmission...

20000 miles and never abused. Is that likely and is there anything else that may cause this? Thanks

check the clutch pedal adjustment to make sure the clutch is disengaging completly. Hopefully not the transmission, 68k on mine with no problems yet.

I clicked the auto adjuster up one click manually and it seems to be going into gear more easily now. Do you think a worn clutch would cause this or possibly a stretched cable? 20K on clutch and cable is original '96 item.
