Im swapping some 98 Cobra cams into my 03 32V motor, and was hoping to advance them using the HP9s. However, everywhere I read I keep seeing people saying that you need the HP9s AND the adjustable crank gear to advance them. I haven't been able to figure out the reasoning for this. The HP9s can advance or retard up to 4* on each gear, so are the crank gears only necessary if going more than 4*, or am I just misinterpreting how these gears are supposed to work?

Also, am I correct in advancing the 98 Cobra intakes 4*, or should it be more? I've seen conflicting posts on various forums, saying 4*, and others 8-10* (which would explain the need for the crank gear).

There is nothing to be gained by advancing the 98 Cobra cams unless you want them to act like 03+ cams. All the stock cams are too small, that's why the factory closes the intake valve so late. Just drop them in and enjoy.
