Continental Extreme Contact DW 285/40-18 rear, 255/45/17 front for a bit over $800

I went with narrower fronts to avoid traming in the crappy NH back roads I drive on and to give the rims some protection with a little higher profile sidewall.

Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 are replacing the DW's so you can get a heck of a buy on these tires right now.

Tires have good ratings and 340 tread wear number.

Reviews say the hold 500 HP in a Termi, and I have just under 600, so hope they don't spin to easy are still ok at 50 deg F.

Anybody run these tires?

I only run them in the front in 255/40/18. They seem to be good but they seem to wear in the centers out even with average air pressure.

I would not run the DWS's on my Terminator. It's a great tire and I run the DW's on my DD but they don't fit the bill here.

You are getting the DW and the DWS confused. The DW is their performance summer tire, the DWS is an All-Season radial. I run the DW and it is a fantastic tire, but anyone that uses an AS radial on this car needs to have their head examined. There is nothing out there to indicate the DW is being discontinued, so post a link if that is the case. The DWS06 replacing the DWS is probably accurate.

It is my understanding from the wharehouse manager and also the sales person that the DWS06 is available currently but not in all sizes and they are closing out the old inventories. I was told Continental Tire is not also not cuurently manufacturing the DW as they will be tweaking the DW similar to the DWS06 and restarting manufacturing. In any case I got a considerable mark down on the DW tires, matching the best internet price form a local brick and mortar tire store.

I read up on these tiresw, supposedly have a decent ride, noise, and tread life. Not quite a Pilot Sport Cup PS2, lacking a bit in steering response, close in ultimate grip.

In 75 k miles

I've used up
1.) Original Ford OEM equipped Goddyear F1 ( So So Tire, wore really quick, & I was at only 450 HP then.)
2.) BFG KDW's ( Not a terrible tire, Not all that grippy, new stuff supposedly better, way to long a tread life as they were real 'Meh' tires.
3.) Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3, great tire in warm weather dry or rain, in warm weather. (Below 60 F, scary horrible.) As they get old and worn, they got like the KDW's
4.) Dunlops, forget which model, but size was 255/40-17. Ok tires, but way too little on rears, wore out quick.
5.) The Eagle F1 GS-D3, again, sucker for punishment, but I got them at a great price, currenly on car, I'll burn them up quick, now they are past their prime.
6. ) ExtremeContact™ DW. Note I got big diameter 27" O.D in rear, effectively making for 3.38/1 gears to kill torque a bit. I just want them to hold rolling on throttle in 2nd gear on good asphalt on a hot sticky day. I still have original clutch in car as I quit going to the track as I can't hook up and don't want tires that will shock the drivetrain.

My car needs a good detailing and those brake rotors got rusty waiting for spring!

The Continental Extreme Contact DW will probably be better than the Goodyear F1 GS-D3. That Goodyear was a good tire back in the day, but technology has improved.

I run the extreme contact DWS on my wifes Acura TL, of course it doesn't put down the power that a Termi does but, its a real good tire, low noise, rides nice, and nice tread pattern too. Good deal for the money.

I have them on my 03 Cobra now. They were newly installed when I bought the car. I agree with Stage 4.6 on the characteristics of the tire and actually couldn't be happier with them.

I've been in a v-8 mustang since 1996 and you can imagine the number of tires I've been through.

I had Goodyears in the 1990's and they were terrible. Wore very quickly with no increase in initial traction. Just not worth it. Then in 2001 or there about I got into BF Goodrich Comp TA's and liked those very much. The Continentials are just good tires in all situations. I wouldn't trade them for a different tire at this point. If you want a track tire then get something different that is more application specific. If just driving the car on the street and having fun the Conti's are great.

I'm also in NH. I used dw's on my last cobra for one season at about 500 rwhp. No traction what so ever when its cold and its still iffy when its warm.
