Just came across this today. Think it could be more of a coincidence, but it does sound pretty similar. What do you guys think?

Whether they plagiarised his music or not they still suck.

As long as they change a certain number of things which they did because the notes are different along with some other things then it isn't plagiarism IIRC. but like said before either way they still suck.

It's very similar, but it's not plagiarism. To truly be a rip-off or plagiarism, Coldplay would have had to steal the guitar riff that Satriani created and then copyrighted. However, since there is no guitar riff like that in the Coldplay song, but rather a vocal melody, Satriani can't really do anything about it. They would have had to rip off the same thing that Joe did, and since they only used the melody, but did it with vocals, they changed it over 10%, which is the amount that something has to be changed in order for it to be considered "different" - At least that's how it is in the graphic and image copyright world.

theres so many songs that have similar beats and rhythms most rap and hiphop artists use the same beat and rhythm on their whole album. quite annoying.

The song most commonly ripped off by ALL artists to the point where a comedian had to rant about it:
