Cold Start Questons

I read here somewhere that if you mat the pedal before cranking, the car won't start...I tried it and that is correct...This seems to be a good way of pumping up some oil pre-fire...possibly 5 to 15 seconds depending on ambient temp...But it would seem that there has to be a negative to this somewhere...other than the stress on the starter.

Perhaps someone can give me the drawbacks to this procedure...
