I have an 8 bolt cobra crank that I have had for several years stored. Pulled it out to make sure it was ok after storage and found something that seems odd. The crank has been run, you can see that on the bearing journals, but measurements are unusual. The main bearings are stock 03 Cobra size, 2.658 measured, but the rod bearing journals have been turned to the 4.6 2 valve size, 2.086. Trying to figure this out... Maybe was damaged and turned down to the 2V size to salvage the crank? Or maybe a machine shop error? It appears to have been re-balanced as well.
Anyone have any thoughts? Or comments?

I have a 2003 Ford Service Manual, the 4V rod journal is listed as slightly larger than the 2V journal. I have a spare set of the original SVT Cobra rods from Manley, they are way to large for this crank. Seemed like a simple check for wear on a used crank, but turned out not.
If you check aftermarket 2V and 4V rods they have different big end dimensions. Tricky.
