Clutch slip or what?

I came to a stop this morning and put the car into 1st. Once traffic gets going I gas it and POW (loud noise) and the stick is back in neutral. The noise scared the crap out of me and I was very scared I broke something.

I put it back in gear and gently got going again. Everything is fine, but I am concerned.

Could this be the clutch slipping? Me driving tired and not being 100% in gear, even though I could swear by it?

Any chance I did damage something?

I had this happen once to me... I attributed it to being lazy and not fully engaging it into 1st. If its part way it will pop out like you describe...Never had it happen again after the 1st incident.

Same thing happened to me once, I never let it happen again.
