Clunk Question

When I got my cobra it had the driveline clunk or slop. At 100 miles I picked up a screw in the LRear tire and the dealer fixed the flat. The clunk was gone, I tried to make it clunk and I couldn't. I bought the afs replicas and replaced the wheels. While I was changing the LRear wheel I noticed that the lugnuts were overtightened and with the wheel off there was spin play between the disk hub and the lugs or axle assembly. Maybe 1/8" inch wiggle. I could move the lugs forward and back and create a light clunk. I'm wondering if this is normal and if this was the source of the clunk it was inadvertantly corrected by overtorqueing the wheel lugnuts? Or maybe its not related at all?
