Reflections On 'Chemical Town' - Toms River, NJ Patch

I grew up about a mile from where the pipeline ruptured.
It's pretty creepy even to this day. The site is mostly abandoned, but the relics still remain. Ciba used to dump directly into the Toms River, and you can still see these massive 15-20' diameter pipes on the side of the river. We used to canoe and kayak through there all the time.

You can see in the birds eye view, where some of these pipes dumped into the river. We arent talking the mighty Mississippi here, in this area the river is only 10-15' wide.

There's a lot of info, most of it just unbelievable and mind boggling.
Downstream in the river theres a large park, called "Winding River". I remember reading stories how the swamps were so polluted, that the morning mist was toxic.
