Helo All,

What paint and color do we use for interior parts? I bought a center consul from a 99 or newer. it looks black or charcoal. I want to match what is in my 96 Mystic ( it is Black) Does anyone know the paint to use? Also anything I need to know when changing the 96 for the 99?

Yup Landau Black from SEM. One can will do it. I swapped my 98 Console for a 04. It's definitely a nice upgrade. Just reuse your 96 armrest/pad

fyi: The 99 console has the same lousy forward cupholder location. I think it got fixed in 2000.

PLEASE post some before/after pics when done!! I'm considering a console swap for the cup holder and also dying some pieces in my car. I'd love to see what the final finish looks like and your thoughts/comments on it.

Mine matches pretty much perfect. I purposely grabbed a charcoal console to start with.
I can take some pics in a day or 2 if anyone still needs them

That looks awesome. Which brand dye did you use? How is it holding up, like with scratches, chipping, peeling, etc?

It was a charcoal console and done with the SEM dye. Matches pretty well. I however don't think it matches with the smooth plastics very well like the radio bezel. It looks off to me.

So far so good that was 2 years ago. Car is not a daily and has seen probably 2k miles since that. I do have a 6 year old who likes to kick her feet everywhere though and it's held up

So just an FYI on the interior colors for the 1994-2004's for those who don't already know...

The 1994-1998 "black" interior color is officially called "Ebony". The 1994-98 Ebony interior parts are a very dark, deep and rich "black".

The 1999-2004 "black" interior color is officially called "Dark Charcoal". The 99-04 Dark Charcoal interior parts almost have a grey or blue hue to them and are not as a deep "black" as the prior 94-98 parts.

The reason I mention the above is that MANY online vendors and private party sellers who are selling new repopped parts, used parts or even NOS parts have parts listed for 1994 THROUGH 2004 as being compatible. Sure the parts are "compatible" as far as swapping in or fitment is concerned between the model years, BUT a 94-98 "black" interior part is not the same as a 99-04 "black" interior part, it is quite different in color.

Also to note if viewing said parts in online images - it's very hard to tell the (2) different black part colors apart from each other IF they are not sitting side by side. Many images of the 99-04 parts do appear as "black", but if a 94-98 owner is needing a true "Ebony" part, the 99-04 "Dark Charcoal" will stand out and not match the surrounding 94-98 "black" interior parts. Same is true if a 99-04 owner needs a replacement interior part.

The above applies to dash assemblies, door cards, door sill plates, rear interior plastics, console assembly, door pulls, kick panels, etc etc. The other thing to be aware of too is that the 99-04 parts will still carry the original 94-95 "F4xx" and "F5xx" Ford part numbers cast molded into the back side of the plastics, even though the actual part color is "Dark Charcoal".

Just be very careful when buying "black" replacement parts if you are a 94-98 SN95 Owner - because the 99-04 Dark Charcoal parts although they fit, the color isn't the same.

See pic examples below of factory original 94-98 and 99-04 driver side kick panels; best I could find online for the comparison with lighting, angles, etc.

- Image #1 is a 94-98 Ebony Kick Panel
- Image #2 is a 99-04 Dark Charcoal Kick Panel

---

If you're in need of the SN95 door pulls (the piece with the power window/door locks) and you are a 1994-98 SN95 owner - you want to buy the DANIEL CARPENTER repops. The DC door pulls are the exact 94-98 Ebony black color, with smooth top surface.

I will also note that NO aftermarket reproduction door pull has the original style "rubberized" texture for the 94-98's. So if you're looking for it, you'll only find it with the used parts OR the rare and hard to find NOS parts.
