I've never heard of someone who didn't pass because of a catted X or H pipe. While it's technically illegal to replace a convertor unless it malfunctions and it supposedly must be replaced by an equivalent aftermarket piece, I have never heard of someone actually failing if there are convertors present. Properly functioning catted X or H pipe should certainly clean exhaust well enough to allow passing of a tailpipe test, and would have no effect on an OBD2 based test if configured properly.

It might flunk the visual inspection though if you have one, i.e. aftermarket 2 cats vs. stock 4 cats. Find a smogger you can trust or get the car low enough so they can't see much.

heard that some states like Calif have it illegal to remove cats so you could fail as mentioned. Here in Nevada, no problem passed with MRT catted h pipe.

I live in Houston, so emissions inspections are a reality. Any replys by people who have passed emissions with aftermarket X/H pipes?????
