It depends. Are you a leader? Do you want to deal with everyone head aches? Do you like herding cats? Are you willing to put in the time and effort to get the job done? Can you be successful in the role? Is the mission of the team achieveable? Can you manage the personalities on the team? Are you good at planning? Are you patient? Do you mind being tasked with the impossible and then be held responsible when you don't succeed. What has prepared you to be a good manager? Will you be developed as a manager or are you expected to just do it? Is the person you will report to a rational individual? What is their political position currently like with upper management? What type of personality do you have? Are you an effective communicator? Are you driven to improve yourself and become better at what you do? etc., etc., etc. All of these factors and many more go into determining if you can be a good manager. Remember, once you go management, you can never go back to being an worker again at the company. So if it doesn't work out, you are unemployed. If you answer the above questions and you have no issue with any of them, take the job and enjoy the ride. If the above questions caused you hesitation, think long and hard if this particular opportunity is right for you.
