Okay I have been busting balls periodically over the past few months on this swap..finally feel I have enough accomplished to throw up this thread.

I'm going to keep this short and simple and full of plenty of pictures.

Quickly recap..bought my car at 194k miles about 2 years ago completely stock...and this is a picture of it exactly a year ago..

Then this happened..

Many times my room has looked like this..

23842_416075089947_656049947_5295747_6065451_n.jpg

Couple bolt ons...big cams..untouched 03 heads...laid down a sturdy 380rwhp w/ 366 ft-lb of torque to boot..STOCK INTAKE MANIFOLD and I ran out of injectors on the dyno.

My car weighed almost 28xxlbs at this point while retaining full interior[besides back seats], power locks, and power windows.

I had fun with this setup for a couple months..then I decided that I REALLY wanted to do something off the wall

well anyways...now here comes the fun part.

BTW, I'm just going to put this out of the way..because every single thread about my car and build has turned into some EFI nutswinger thinking that I am saying 'carb>efi'. The reason I decided to go carbureted is because I WANTED to. I realize that EFI takes the cake when it comes to drivability and MPG, but quite frankly I don't care. I had issues with my car while it was injected, and chased down every single vacuum line and sensor and it still wouldn't behave perfectly right...so I ditched it. From a performance standpoint a properly setup carbureted setup can make more power than an EFI setup....also since I plan on going to a blow through setup, it will allow me to run ethanol with a LOT of boost and a LOT of compression while keeping inlet air temps down lower than EFI. Anyways...

Intake and some wiring removed..

Removed the valve covers to powder coat them..heads still look beautiful!

Since I ripped out all of the wiring from the car...I now have to wire it from scratch. It is a simplified early version of my new wiring diagram that I had to design from scratch.

In the end, I went through 250-300' of RAW spool'd wire that I had to individually cut, strip, crimp connectors, solder, heat shrink, and run through the car.

My instrument cluster and race panel were both made by me, from complete scratch, took me somewhere around 10-15 hours to get them both completed..but definitely was worth it!

Got rid of my Fluidyne and going with a smaller AFCO drag racing radiator..the reason I am doing this is because I needed a LOT of extra room in front of the engine now. Going with a F2 on a gear-driven setup. For size reference:

My almost complete interior.

I even took the time to take a wire brush to each individual bolt..made a big difference!

I don't have any nice fancy tools..so when I had to do all the AN lines...this is ALL I literally used to cut and assemble all my braided lines.

cuts turned out nicely though!

I will be having plenty of more pictures/videos coming in the next few days...I am still working on getting the car fine tuned and all the little things all closed up. I should have plates/insurance back on the car and my hood pinned on[I picked up a 3" cobra r lift off hood..which I'm still not quite sure if that will be enough]..I have a GoPro camera..so I'll be posting videos with that :]

As of now...being that I have big cams, single plane intake, a not so forgiving carburetor..my car doesn't like riding around at 1500-2000RPMs...I mean, it runs fine but I can't SMASH the gas and expect it to take off.[once it is properly tuned i should be fine]

Yesterday I did my first pull in it...I took it up to 2k RPMs and just rolled into the throttle and she screamed like her old self! Definitely loves the RPMs!

Man the car looks and sounds SWEET. My hat is off to you. The road less traveled is often very rewarding. And you seriously have a crap ton of space in front of that motor for the blower or any type of forced induction.

I have to ask you something though-- you look kind of young (around my age). Im 21. What exactly do you do for a living? I could never even begin to think about funding something like this. Not hating in any way, I am just asking because I may need to make some life changes! hahaha

cant wait to see the final result!

Dude I give you a TON of credit for all the work you've done so far, well done. Well almost lol can't wait to see it done/driving!

Good news..it is already done!! haha..sorry I was just splitting up my OP.

Thanks though..I've spent countless hours researching, planning, designing, and building this darn thing! Proud to see it finally rumble once more.

28xx lbs? How? Did you have it weighed?

It was low 29xxlbs when I last had it weighed..which was when I still had power steering, brakes, EFI, and several other things.

My car has NO radio/cd player, no AC, no heater/heater core, no defrosters [except the rear], I literally removed the entire air vent assembly, no windshield wipers, I ripped out all un necessary wiring, all the soundeadening/heat insulation located in the interior is GONE..I have full manual brakes/steering and anything and everything that I did not need was gone. Even the exhaust hangers located by my rear bumper I threw away since I don't need them anymore because I have dumps.

I suspect my car to weigh around 2700lbs..maybe even 2600lbs! For reference...I used to NOT be able to fit a finger between my front tire and fender well...I now have a THREE finger gap there from all the weight I removed off the nose alone.[and that was from when my car already weighed 29xx]

This setup will probably make somewhere around 400-415rwhp NA..and since I weigh so little..should make for a fun little car!

Really can't wait to see it out and running around.

I'll be sure to hit up the local car meets once I get back down into Orlando!

Good job bud, props for doing something different, and hard! Engine almost looks like a Boss 429. What size carb?

Thanks man!

ProForm 750 DP, mechanical secondaries

Congrats!!!!

Thanks!

Amazing craftsmanship and patience

Patience is THE word!! haha

Thanks man! I love me a clean engine bay to work in..makes all the difference in the world!

Takes me 2 minutes to have BOTH valve covers completely removed on the car, lol

freaking awesome man,,is it hard to steer without the power steering box, cause my fox without power steering with the tubular k-member is crazy hard to drive

ehh..you get used to it I guess. I'm a small little guy and I don't have an issue with stopping [all ~140lbs of me] or turning the car...but it DEFINITELY takes some getting used to.

I won't let anyone just jump into my car and drive it because of that.

Man the car looks and sounds SWEET. My hat is off to you. The road less traveled is often very rewarding. And you seriously have a crap ton of space in front of that motor for the blower or any type of forced induction.

haha and no offence, you are correct..I'm a young kid. I'm a broke student doing this on a reallllly tight budget. I just keep finding out how to do things better, stronger, and cheaper....catch is, I have to put a lot more elbow grease into it.

Pretty much everything I did on my car during the swap I had to make myself, for instance my instrument cluster/race panel I made with about $20 in materials...Florida 5.0 sells those same things for a couple hundred dollars, I didn't have the luxury of buying things that already bolt up to the car.

Just bouncing around part time jobs while in college and funding things where/while I can, lol.

Good god, that thing sounds naughty. What cams are in it man?

comp grind #106400, I think it is something like 236* of duration@050.

New engine that is being built I am stepping up to much bigger solid roller cams.
