Strictly for a car hauler I’d love diamond plate.
If it doubles as a utility trailer then go wood.

There is also way more to the payload thing but it complicates things.

For a car/ utility you can damn near throw the % out the window.
Stick with roughly 400lb tongue weight and you will be fine.
Keep in mind,
1/2 ton trucks come with class III hitches.
Without a load leveling hitch that is good for 6000 and 600 tongue weight.
Your normal ball mount wit 0 to 2” drop is good for 5000/500.

There is a never ending cycle of rules to go by on this.
You can tell when you overload, have not enough or too much tongue weight, etc....

And I’m one that will tell you that towing 11k with. 1/2 ton is stupid.

Get you a 18ft trailer, load it right and never look back if you are just hauling your car to the track and back.
Anything more, get. 3/4 or 1 ton. Lol

Earico, are you happy with the diamond plate, or do you ever wish you had wood?

I'm very happy with it. I have had vehicles leak and you can clean it up easily. Also you don't get splinters if you need to crawl around on it. I also use it as an utility trailer sometimes. Usually it's just to haul big pieces of furniture or appliances. It works great for that too. I just run ratchet straps from the sides and ends.

I had a buddy looking at V8 Explorers to tow his 67 442 from CT to CA. I kept telling him it won't work. His response was that the Explorer had a 7500lb rating. I explained to him that just because it says it can haul it, doesn't mean it does it well. I went through that with my Mountaineer and our 5000lb boat.

FWIW I got my trailer from my grandparents who towed their 56 F100 with and 05 F150 and their 56 T-Bird with their 16 F150 and they never had an issue. But they were well under the capacity for the truck. They know all about GVWR and such.

Tilt trailer is nice-this one has a duck tail-but still needed race ramps to not drag on lowered car
