Can you mix and match a brand's long tubes w/another brand's shorty X/H pipe?

Looking @ getting a set of Mac long tubes, will any brand's shorty H/X work w/'em? Ie. I've seen used Bassani and BBK shorty X's for sale, but I'm not sure how they'll fit w/the Mac's.

Long and short pretty much sums it up. Technically you could fab it but the headers come further back then where the x starts for the shorter headers. Or did i miss understand you?

Yes, you misunderstood ... though I probably didn't make it very clear.

I understand that long tubes require a shorty H/X pipe (vs. a standard length H/X pipe that bolts up to standard length headers). In the past when I've ran long tubes, I never mix and matched brands between the headers and the shorter mid pipe. If I ran Mac lt's, I ran their shorty H ... if I ran BBK lt's, I ran their shorty H. My question is, can you mix and match these? Will Mac lt's and a BBK shorty H fit ok? Likewise for Mac lt's and a Bassani shorty X. The end result is that I'd want either of those 2 combinations, or others, to bolt right up to my stinger catback w/out having to modify anything.

Is that a better explaination?
