Hey everyone,

I ordered a short block, sent out my heads and got new cams to.
My questions is what is everyone doing for cam chains? Re-use the old ones?
Replace it all? Go ford? Stock gears?
old stuff has 103,000 miles. Look good but who knows??

Sorry, Im just stuck with what I should and should not do with this. Any help will be a big help guys,

Thanks Gene

I think most everyone keeps the original chains unless they show abnormal wear. Changing the guides is not a bad idea.

is there a tool i need to use to aling the cams or hold them in place?

You need a degree wheel, coat hanger, dial indicator, and a solid lifter [maybe more, all I can think of off the top of my head]

There is an OTC tool to hold them in place. I'm not sure if there are any other tricks or cheap tools that you could use to do the same thing.

at least change the primary chains, its cheap insurance, I have seen primarys break but never secondary. and use a 99 lower 1 piece crank gear.

secondarys are the first to go actually- any ptv contact that puts improper forces on them and boom! first hand experience on this

100K on primary chains is a great time to replace if the engine is apart, usually the guides are worn pretty good at this point also, so be sure to check them. We keep the chains, guides and complete kits in stock so let us know how we can help!

What's you best price on then, I think you have my short block ready to ship and you should be working on the heads now. Just waiting for you to ship it.

Oh, Hi Gene, we received your heads just a few days ago, Im not the one that handled your order but I thought that we were porting them too?? Anyway, that generally takes 7-10 days so your engine should be ready to ship in about 1-2 weeks, the shortblock is already done! Thank you for the business! What price would you like (which parts - the complete kit or just chains)

Yes, you are doing a port/valve job. Thank you..

Price both ways, just chains and compleat kit. Who makes them? Are the gears adjustable?
