CA COMMUTER/HOV LANES

Just curious if anyone knows about the California Commute/HOV lanes. I want to know if its legal to PASS in these lanes, and I mean to quickly get in that lane to only pass, then back into the regular lane, for those people who do 63 in the center lane and 62 in the right lane, the left lane is the only one open, and of course I mean this during the restricted hours, not on sat/sun, etc.
