Here's the patent as filed Sept 19, 2013 by GM for a 7-speed dual clutch transmission.

You didn't think those paddles on your manual were going to really be for rev matching did you?

It's bullshit you can even patent that. It's obviously an extension of a previously discovered invention and doesn't warrant an approval for a new patent IMO.

What are you on about? How can GM not patent their own DCT design? Porsche patented their PDK. You need to CLEARLY explain yourself.

Are you referring to an extension of a previous patent? Than yes it is. Here's the patent:

Or are you saying its not going in the Vette?

I think he means that its stupid adding a 7th gear to a transmission that others have already invented/produced (IE 6spd dual clutch trannies) doesnt warrant as inventing anything. Its innovating sure, but inventing....not exactly.

If someone makes an 8spd manual gearbox, are they inventing anything or are they just innovating? IMO inventing is making something completely new, say for instance when someone first made a CVT transmission, thats an invention.

Are you a patent attorney, or do you work for the patent office? you can patent a new or useful improvement to an exiting device.
