Build Thread: The Quest for a 10 Sec Street Car

Let me introduce you to Lola. I bought her brand spanking new on 4/3/14. Once I saw her, I knew she was the next stang in my life.

The mod bug bit quick in the first week with an MGW Shifter, procal tune, FRPP X-Pipe, and Corsa Extremes. I was on the "I want to keep my warranty kick" for a little while, but that became old... fast.

Following that, a slew of BMR suspension components were installed including an UCA w/ mount, LCAs, Relocation Brackets, PHB, and 1.5 Sport Springs with Koni Yellows.

Shortly after, I took her down the 1320 for her first run and out of three runs, managed a best of 12.6 @ 114 walking her out of the hole off idle (pzeros) and keeping her in 4th banging off the limiter.

It wasn't long after that, that my buddy took me for a good ride in his 427R Roush. This car has a fully built 4.6 3v with a 2.3 TVS on race fuel, and all the supporting mods. I fell in love with the pure violent acceleration this 750 whp beast displayed on a mexican highway decimating its 20 inch 315 NT05Rs from 2nd gear through 5th. It was at that moment I knew where my build was headed. Bye bye warranty.... hello VMP!

So an update:

Had the car dynoed about 3 weeks ago at Cartek in Garwood. Even though they are a Corvette shop, Julio, Roy and Eric know what they are doing and I would recommend the shop to anyone I know. Justin at VMP dialed in the tune and she put down 569whp at 7k and 501 wtrq. The tune is conservative, but the setup rips.

Heres the vid:

This past Saturday, I learned just how much more power this car really has. I took her down to Atco and ran with my buddy whos running a tvs swapped 5.4 Shelby with all the boltons at 15psi on 15x28" MT Pros. Seat time is going to be my new friend, but im still happy with the run.

I managed an 11.16 at 121mph with a 1.77 60ft running on 305/35/20 NT555R Drag Radials at 20 psi and heavy 20" rims. I would have trapped much higher, but muscle memory kicked in and I didnt shift to 5th, since when I was NA that would slow me down. My second run I was sleeping on the launch and slow shifting, but still managed an 11.3 at 125 with a 1.89 60ft. All and all, Im happy with the result, but I know its capable of a 10.xxx pass the way it sits.

Heres the slip. I'm 9873

My new performance direction is to get the car running consistant in the 10s... and eventually dip into the 9s. So heres the plan:

Stage 1: Insurance
- Detroit True Track Diff
- FRPP Diff Cover
- Welded Tubes
- TSS Oil Pump Gears
- Weld Rears 15x10" on 28" Drag Radials
- Race tune on 104.

Stage 2: 4th gear for days!
- JPC Magnum XL Package
- Aluminum Drive Shaft
- MGW Shifter
- BMR DS Loop
- RXT and Light Steel Flywheel
- JPC Clutch Line

Stage 3: Consistancy off the Line
- Weld Front Runners 17x4" with 28" Radials
- JPC Line Lock
- n2mb WOT Box
- Viking Double Adjustible Rear Shocks
- Strange Struts with CJ Front springs (I have 2013 CJ rear springs already)

Stage 4: 9 second manual street car
- 75mm Pulley
- 8 rib conversion
- ID1000s
- Kooks LTs and X-Pipe
- VMP Dual 67mm TB
- Forged Rotating Assembly
- Valve Springs
- Billet Crank Gear
- Head Cooling Mod
- Race tune for 104
- Street tune on 93

I modified the plan, because this is the way it should have been from the start. After just missing 10s, and knowing the car is capable of getting there as it sits currently, my new goal is a Manual 9 Second Street Car.

Cheers!

Thanks Scott. Im thinking about fabbing up an Auxillary fuel cell in the spare tire well and running a separate fuel system for e85 on track days. This way i can run regular fuel daily since its abundant in Jersey, but then switch to e85 when im at the track.

Its either that, or buy 104 race gas by the station close to the track and have Justin build me a race tune with some higher timing. We shall see next year.

An auxiliary fuel cell sounds like a pain... I'd run E85 all the time if it's available or pump, pump/race gas mix, or 100% race gas tunes if E85 isn't.

So after talking to some friends on a recent job site, we came up with a solution for a simple way to store e85. I noticed an older Dodge Ram with a fuel cell and pump stored in the bed area which was used to fuel the heavy equipment onsite. It just so happens that my daily is the same truck! So why not run this in my rig to store E85! The whole setup with the storage tank, electric pump, and meter to calculate how much fuel is pumped would run ~$1000. Also, im only 20 mins from the Newark station so fill-ups are easy.

So if I swap injectors to id1000s and add OPGs, I can safely run e85 with always having 55 Gallons of E85 on standby! Granted, this doesnt solve the long trip availability issue, but I can always load my 93 oct tune in a pinch if i cant find e85. So gents, new winter project?? What are your opinions?

I guess its all about how much BS you want in your life to have the e85. I like your direction tho. Have fun!
