one of the symptoms is getting into a fight with me... it often results in a broken jaw...

but seriously... it would be really swollen and would be very painful to move.... whats the background story?

 @ glass jaw

Your chin can take a beating, its the sides of your jaw you need to worry about. If you ever look at a skull the chin area is pretty beefy, but the sides taper down.

If anything you MAY have a hairline fracture which really isn't anything to worry about. If you actually broke your jaw you'd be in alot of pain (depending on how pinched the nerves are). If you can still talk without breaking into tears then either a) you're the man b) your jaw isnt broken

Sounds like it just got a little bit racked...

If you had a broken or dislocated jaw you would know it.

Take a few Advil and you will be fine.

Most likely a strain or sprain. I did something similar years back playing football. It hurt to open my mouth wide, and chewing hurt pretty bad for about 3 days. If it was broke you would definitely know it.

crepitance---crunching sounds when you open and shut your mouth, from broken bones moving

malocclusion--your teeth don't line up as they normally do when you shut your mouth

those would be 2 signs of a broken jaw.

It's actually called crepitus....some people have it and it's perfectly normal...I'm pretty sure if it's broken you'd be in a lot of pain right now.

spelling owns me tonight. in my line of business, crepitus is not normal. but if you're a facial plastic surgeon, or ENT specialist, i will yield to your expertise

Yes my best friend suffered a broken jaw while in high school. He got a stray baseball to the face. Had his jaw wired shut for a while.

Dental school....a lot of patients have crepitus...it's not really considered pathologic unless it's causing pain or some kind of discomfort...sometimes it's a sign of osteoarthritis affecting the TMJ.
