I know its very important to have a break in period on a clutch but I wanted to know what is the technical reason you must break in a clutch before putting heavy loads on it? Also if u don't break it in how much does it effect performance and life of the clutch?

I'm not an expert by any means, but the life might be shortened if not broken in. You have two new surfaces (flywheel & clutch) made of different material. I think of it has bedding in new brake pads and rotors. I have only about 160 city miles on my new clutch setup and I'll be taking it easy until I hit the 500 mark.
