Is it true that we cant cut our rotors?
Cause I did brakes on my 94 cobra and its the secound time I cut the rotors for the same problem shaking steering wheel, pulling sterring wheel when apply brake, and it gose away for awhile but then comes back again:mj: .
Then this one mechanic told me that u CANT cut the rotors in these cars:dw:
Is that true, cause if it is then I have found my problem!
Oh and what are some good rotors to but?

thanks.

Instead of cutting/resurfacing mine I bought a whole new set from Napa, front and rear, for about $160. They seem to be the same rotors as the Ford part and they've worked fine.

The rotors can be turned, but there is a minimum thickness that has to remain. When I did mine (shaking steering wheel when brakes were applied), I talked to Auto Clone, and there is a set amount they cut off, and he said that usually takes it to near the maximum. Your rotors may be warped, with no run-out at all. Considering all the jacking and work involved in removing the rotors to have them checked with a micrometer (two are needed - the fronts need a large scale micrometer) ... possibly two jacking sessions (I only had two stands), it would be a lot more efficient to replace the rotors and pads, and get it over with. My brakes have felt fine, for over a year.

Now, you just have to decide how much money you want to spend. The price varies considerably. Check around on the Internet, Auto Zone, Advance Auto Parts, etc.

Mine have also been fine for a year, but I wish I'd taken Dano's advice and spent a bit more to get rotors that don't rust.

Lee, did you paint the inner diameter, after you installed them?

For Untamed's benefit, my new rotors rusted up in the inner portion of the diameter, after only about three days of use & moisture, and a little rain! I was so damn mad at Advance Auto Parts - for once, I let my anger out, instead of just talking about it on the way home! The store manager gave me about $10 worth of high temp spray paint to cover the inner diameter of each rotor. I just masked everything off (after brushing the rust off, and rinsing it), and put about three good coats of paint on it. I would not recommend using the aluminum color, though. It never seems to cure properly, and the pigment wipes off onto your hand real easy. The paint still looks okay, but traces off it still wipe off, on contact with anything. They look 400% better than the rust that was on them.

Some rotors come with a coating of some sorts on them, that's supposed to stay on the rotor. The price is quite a bit higher for this coating.

Nope, like a dummy I didn't paint them. Guess I'll go back and do it sometime, after I paint the house.
