i just returned from a deployment and i went to drive my mustang today for the first time. things were going well until about a half hour into my drive. i was going to stop and was caught by surprise when i pushed in my brake pedal and had nothing. the brake pedal had no pressure at all, i had no front brakes. when i got home smoke my coming from under my hood. i took a look and on the brake master cylinder (where you put the brake fluid in) fluid was over flowing out of the tank with the cap on leaking down causing the smoke. does anyone know what could be causing me to have no brakes? i just installed a built engine just before i deployed and did not have this problem. does it sound like my master cylinder is bad? the cars body has 84,XXX miles. any help will be greatly appreciated. thank you.

It's hard to say what your problem may be. Any help I could give you would be a guess and with something like Brakes I am not comfortable just guessing. Maybe someone else can chime in that has had a similar problem or see a similar problem. Hope you get it figured out soon.

Check your brake lines? Bleed your brakes. Check your bolts on the calipers and make sure your pads are good. I helped a Mustang that was broke down on the side of the road, and her caliber bolts that go into the strut broke and her caliber was just hanging there shooting fluid everywhere.

He had fluid flowing from out of the cap of the reservoir. The only way that happens usually is when someone fills the reservoir when the brakes are worn out and then replaces the pads and there is too much fluid in the system but never can I remember a time when I heard of something like he explained in his initial post.

One or more of your calipers is stuck. Get the car in thd air, pull all 4 calipers. You should find a smoking gun pretty quick in the form of a discolored rotor and or lack of brake pads. What is happening is the caliper is stuck causing a lot of heat build up and boiling your fluid. You may have noticed it had you been driving your car regularly because the car would have felt slow.

When you find the bad caliper I would either rebuild or replace it and make sure you toss the rotor.
