Belt walking

Serpentine belt started walking forward last week. Replaced a bad pulley and now it's walking backwards. Anyone see this before? Thinking a new tensioner is in order but wanted to hear what everyone has experienced. Thanks in advance for the advice!

Sounds like an alignment issue. This could be caused by a bad bearing causing the pulley to move around, making the belt walk. Or a pulley was installed, upper, lower, and or alt. pulley and its not pressed in the correct position causing a mis alignment with the adjacent pulley.

Would alignment change over time for any reason other than a bad bearing/pulley or tensioner? It was fine for about 1,000 miles when I first got it.

Is your lower crank pulley wobbling? Can you post up some pics of the idler with the belt on and off? Have you changed anything with your setup?

Can't really get good pics, but here's what I did get before taking the belt off. It's literally going in the opposite direction now. Haven't changed a thing since buying it.

On a side note, I have now experienced the part number / out of stock issue with the local dealer. Looks like there are plenty on ebay though.

Something's out of alignment. Your going to have to check each pulley to make sure it's aligned and spinning true. Idlers, alt, blower etc.

I don't have a good eye for this stuff. My friend says there's a noticeable gap but I think it's the camera angle. Thoughts?

Also the previous owner said the guy before him "ground the bump stop off to allow extra movement when using smaller blower pullies....it takes up the extra slack."

Id check all your idlers and make sure they are sitting square. then check to make sure your alt. pulley isn't backing off the shaft. with the engine off you should be able to get a good idea what pulley isn't lined up. try turning the motor over by hand with a rachet to slow things down. but that's some pretty bad alignment issues

My upper and lower pulley were put on backwards and no one noticed til it got to GTR. Bought a new belt and it was coo but upon start up it would basically jump off the tensioner each time. We would've never thought that the pullies were put on backwards. It was a whole mess. That dealer is a piece of shit. Either way hope your issue is solved.

It sounds like a lot of what everyone is describing would've caused it to walk off almost immediately, no? I bought the car in Sep, haven't changed anything, and it just started this a few weeks ago. Not driving much now, but got it out on nice days when I could. Here's a few more pics. Hopefully they work.

Are those metal shavings next to your alternator? Is that your alt. pulley that is worn on the ribs? Look closely at that alt. Try to pull on the pulley/shaft, you may have a bearing going out in it.

Those are in facts bits of metal. I still can't find any glaring issues with any pulleys. Alternator seems to be tight. I suppose I'll know once the tensioner is back on.

Ok I just looked at your pic again, your alternator pulley is hitting the case. Look at the back of that pulley and the case you can see where its rubbing. Theres your issue, looks like your alt shaft is moving. That will explain the metal shavings. Or is that the belt rubbing against the alt. case.

I haven't had to do anything yet. Got a little better light and angle on the alternator tonight...

So is that the pulley, alternator, both? Sorry for the rookie questions.

Could the belt cut into alternator housing like that?
