after porting my Boss intake and seeing the results I started thinking about porting my heads , but its a major PITA to pull the heads on these cars so I wasnt about to do it unless I was already pulling the motor. thought about it some more and decided that rather than sit around and wait for my motor to #8 or munch a rod I would take matters into my own hands and just port the heads on the damn car! I pulled the intake and had a look at the ports... I saw some things I thought I could improve on , but I also wanted to see how the Boss ports matched up to the heads...but how could I check? I compared the Boss ports up against the stocker and they are pretty much identical in the opening , so I figured since I dont need my stocker I would just cut the flange off it and bolt it to the head and see how it matches up. well it matches up very well with only a slight mismatch at the top of the ports on either side of the injector. undetered by the nice port match I still felt as there was room for improvement and I was gonna get it. So I broke out the 6" carbides, shop vac and cotton balls...lined the valves with 6 cotton balls per side and went to work. I corrected the slight mismatch and took the bluntness out of the runner divider. I trimmed and thinned the bump right in front of the valve guides and I smoothed and blended as far into the bowls as I could reach. bolted the intake back on and went to the track next day iirc. here are the results. keep in mind the air was 400' better on the ported timeslip then it was on the unported... unported best ported best prep the finished port corrected for d/a the car shows .1sec and just under 1mph gained...not bad considering the exhaust is untouched and the intake bowls are basically untouched also.
