My cousin totalled his R1 last weekend. The rear wheel busted and folded under him. He said it felt like he popped his tire, but with a much stronger drop...when it dropped he was going into 2nd gear and dumped the clutch and 12 oclocked the bike. He came off the back, and the bike came down at an angle, and flipped a few times. Broke the forks, tore apart the triple tree and clamps, and ripped the upper fairing off. The subframe is cracked, and we think the frame is bent.

All this was at about 45 mph. He rolled/slid about 30 yards into the median and got away with a sprained wrist and minor road rash...had anyone else been involved he might not have walked away.

We're in the process of getting yamaha to take care of his medical bills and replace his bike. The bike had less than 2000 miles on it.

If yamaha doesn't step up and take care of the bad wheel they put on the bike, then its getting dropped/stretched/sprayed. Its going to be a straight line cruiser cuz he's too big to lay that thing into the turns anyway.
