well, this is an on and off problem. i just replaced my alt about 6-8 months back. got a pretty decent one with a lifetime warranty cause i didnt want to deal with alts anymore like i did on my ol 95 gt. the battery light comes on sometimes. sometimes when i start the car up, sometimes while im driving and usually when i floor the car. sometimes it will stay on for 1 minute, sometimes for 5 and others for 15. now i checked all my connecting wires and cleaning them all off (no real corrosion except for maybe the ground to the block but its really tough to get to. with the battery light on (and car), im getting 14.2 volts from the battery. with the car off im getting 13.4 volts. that all seems right to me. i ran codes and guess that battery light doesnt show up as anything. just curious as to what you guys think is going on because the battery seems to be charging even though the light is saying its not

there are times when im driving and it flickers on and off pretty quickly then all of a sudden stay on or just the same, go off. not much rhyme or reason with it because the battery is always putting out enough volts. just dont want to put strain where its not needed or to find myself in a dead car sometime

gonna hit this back up once hoping someone has any ideas. it still happens and yet i still get 14.2 volts from the battery at all times while it is running. all connections on the back of the alt are good (took off, cleaned and put back on) and nothing looked wrong with them before i took them off. id hate to have to live with the battery light coming on here and there with no problem actually being there. any ideas from you bored people at work today? :)

OK.. turn the car off and check the volts when the car is turned over but not on..

Then turn the car on and check...
If both of those numbers are fine then check the battery connection..
when my alt was messed up my ABS light would come on.. This may be an electrical issue

If all else fails and you really don't think anything is wrong, just pull the bulb so you don't have to look at it anymore

yeah, ill test with the car turned over but not on. with the car completely off it was at the 13.5 and running (with the light on) was the 14.2 but ill try that tomorrow. i cleaned the battery connections perfectly and still the same. the ground to the body looks good and the only real thing that doesnt look so hot is the ground to the engine but im sure its going to rust on the outside and be pretty good on the connection itself.

i get no other lights like abs or anything like that either. ill post up what i get with that test tomorrow
