So im debating on tackling a back porch awning build myself, I recent had a quote done for it, and was quoted about 3500, Which isnt bad considering it was a 7 x 30 Painted metal awning. But i would like some other ideas. What opinions or advice do ya'll have before i decide to do it myself or pay someone else? Lets hear them.

Maybe if ya'll have some Pictures of ya'lls builds would also maybe give me ideas.
Post them up!

I am also wanting to do the same thing, neighbors two houses down had one put up this spring but it cost them 10k. I thought that was super expensive!

Without seeing pictures, look at a post frame building roof and mimic that. Are you tying into your existing roof?
You could definitely diy

I have two SunSetter Awnings on the back of my house, the motorized ones, with the wind sensors. There great and love them! If u ever leave them open or forget as soon as it gets too windy the shut on there own.

Have a patio framed and tie it into your roof. Deck and shingle it like it was part of the original structure.

THIS. Having something like this framed, shingled and painted to match the house always looks better. I also think this gives better options for covered outdoor kitchen/BBQ area. I am going this route off my back deck this year as I really need an area for all my BBQ equipment.

Don't get one of those ghey sunsets awnings.
Do it right, don't make it look like an afterthought.
Those are nothing more than an RV awning screwed to the side of your home.

Pergola. Awnings belong on trailers.

This is what I’ll be building myself in the next two/three weeks if HOA approves. I did a rough estimate and I should easily be under $1500 for an 14’x11’x10’ (LxWxH) cedar pergola.

In for pics of pergola. So glad we don’t have hoa anymore
From today. Stacked wood needs to be returned because it’s bad (I had it pulled/shipped for free). Will finish the pergola tomorrow and also have 3 tons of pea gravel coming tomorrow for the kids play area. Going to be a long day...
