There are timing marks on all gears. The chains also have colored links that align with the timing marks. The shop manual covers how to align/set the marks.

Get the cams degreed, but you better
Have someone with mod knowledge.
You need ford gt chains and gears if you plan on making serious power, those dinky factory chains will stretch.

This will give you an idea on some of the markings but be warned that our engines are much more complicated. You have to be sure that all the cams on both heads and crank are all perfectly aligned. The tensioner is a little tricky also.

Here are pictures for you:

The GT500 uses a smaller main cam drive gear than all other 4V's and a different valve cover to match it. If you use the older larger diameter exhaust gear you will have to change valve covers to match it. I think :dw:

Most of the cam drive pieces on the GT500 engine are specific to that engine.....the crank gears are of course smaller as well and the chains shorter and so on.

You can get some high dollar short chains that are Japanese made that drive the intake cams....I don't think those changed length on the GT500.....while your at it you can get the fancy upside down chain tensioner for the passenger side head that corrects a wrong doing over there and is worth a few HP.
