I'll be moving back to my home in Tucson from N.Carolina next month and I was wondering if you can pass the Emissions Test with a "Off-raod" mid pipe?
Also do they do a visual test and are they anal about having all 4 cats?

Thanks,
Luis

Good question. Good thing i can take my cats on and off at any time. Did you notice a difference in power not having cats? I didnt notice a thing. It was just a lot louder.

They are nazis here. A offroad pipe will not pass the visual equipment inspection. You need at least 2 cats on it to pass :nonono:

Az. Emissions/Inspections

Someone beat me to saying the "cats" must be present.... Also the smog
pump must hooked up and operating.

The way to get around the state emissions test, other than newer models, is
to not live in Maricopa or Pima Counties. I have heard some people say they
have a PO box # in Benson, Az., just east of Pima Co. That sounds a bit more
shakey than having a registration/property in Az counties other than the above two.

I've already been at odds with the emissions test as My '82 GT Mustang
failed: I got one bye and on a second fail I lost the license. The '82 emission
sys. is a mess to keep up let alone restore, so I kicked the whole '82 5.0 for
a new crate 5.0 topped w/EFI. The State legislature is working on a bill that
should set test exemptions at over 15 years old and having a rolling date....
this year would exempt 1990 and next year should exempt 1991. Hope this
legislation passes! 1993 Cobras would be exempt in 2008.

Tell me Az is undemocratic with emissions; if not all than NONE, I say!

OBDII tests are done on any cars between 1998 and 2001 model years. Anything before that and it's off to the drum test.

You'll be fine if you have a vacation home in the mountains...like me.

Emissions and Mtn property

Been looking for White Mtn. property that has P. pine on it and is reasonably
priced. With the late fires and the drought-like conditions, the summers will
continue to be high in fire hazzard...and you know that insurance co's have
kicked up their coverage rates and what you must do on your property to
satisfy them. And that's over and above what local fire authorities suggest!!!
So I guess the wait may be forever, sadly. Being from N Mn and the conifer
forests of the north, the forested White Mtns have a BIG pull on me. Skiing
in the winter, summers are ideal to escape the Tucson desert heat, and the
best car show this state has to offer is the Run to the Pines in the fall: the
Whites have it all !!!!!!! NO EMISSIONS TESTS EITHER! :pepper:

The only potential problem with the registrations outside of Pima and Maricopa counties (at least in Maricopa) is if you will be using the vehicle for commuting to work within said county it still has to pass emissions. That said, I doubt the DPS will give you a hard time, unless you happen upon a smog dog on the freeway, which I haven't seen in quite a while.
