I believe he is referring to the shims that go between the brake pad and caliper. I am actually looking for some b/c mine don't have them and my brakes squeal really bad in reverse. So I've been told they are used for noise.

Use some brake anti-squeal compound between the pad and the caliper if its noise you are trying to cure.

Yes, the shims are apart of the brake pad...they help keep the brakes quiet when you use them.

No, not the rattle clips. The spacers/shims. Only answer is that is reduces noise, but could it dampen vibrations too?
