Found a couple of threads talking about this, but havent seen any pix or confirmed that 285/40s will fit up front on stock rims etc.....Im sure 275/40s will fit, but Im curious if the 285s will touch the shocks.

Just dont understand why Ford wanted 255/45s up front on a nose heavy car like this anyway.

From my understanding they will fit, I was one of the people who posted about this and I believe the replies I got confirmed they will fit with no rubbing.

Here is the thread I started..

Smaller tires up front means less steering wheel kickback and car is less likely to follow the ruts in the road.

I understand completely. There is always some slight "wandering" associated with wider tires up front, but my concern is mostly aesthetic more than anything else, but I do feel my old 03 Mach1 benefited grately from 17x9 wheels with 275/40 rubber all the way around.

What did you decide to do on your car about the front tires?

I didn't get the Shelby...I am waiting to see what is in store for the 10 Stang as far as the improvements. I am driving a 08 BMW 328i with sport package and 6 spd manual right now. However I completely agree with you on the puny 255 tire on a 4klb car with a 57/43 weight distribution. At a minimum I would run a 275/40 up front, this would go along way to get rid of the understeer this car has. Also a 255 tire on a 9.5" rim is really stretching out that sidewall, it is the maximum amount of width that is recommended for the 255 tire. A 275 tire is a perfect fit for a 9.5" wide rim..If I was to get a Shelby I would probalby go the CCW route with the 9.5" and 10.5" width's, running a 275 front with the 305 rears and I would probably move up to the 19" size. With the 19" size you can run Mich PS2's which is what I had on my M3 and 997S.
