im in the market for some new front tires. i have oem 03 cobra rims and am trying to decide if i want to put 255 or 275 nitto 555s up front.

ive run 275s before and i love the way it feels in corners but hate the way i get pulled around by the ruts in the road.

if anyone has pics of a 255 on a 9" rim that would be awesome

I am buying tires tonight. I am going with nitto 555's all around, and was going to do 255/40/17 all around as well. Would it be a mistake not to get 275's for the rear? Does anyone have close up pics of the 275's? (dont mean to jack thread, just figured it was being discussed anyway  )

p.s. Rims are 17x9

on stock 17x8 wheels? if so, I wouldnt do 275's out back. Hell, I'd just stick with the 245/45/17's. No point really in doing a 255/40 all around.

tire differences on 245/45's compared to the 255/40's...

sidewall is .32" smaller
section width is .39" larger
diameter is .65" smaller.

I woulnt want to run a smaller tire on my car... the smaller the tire, the more revolutions. More revolutions = more miles racked up on the car. It may be a small amount, but it could be the difference of say 5k miles over the life of the car that your being cheated out of....

If anything, run a 255/45/17..... this tire has more sidewall, is larger in diameter and section width. IMO thats what I'd run if I had stock 17x8's.

Well with the 17x9's I'd either run 255/45/17's up front and 275/40/17's out back, or 275/40's all around. The only benefit to 275/40's all around would be the rotation factor. But, if you get directional tires (can only be put on one way), it doesnt really matter.

My vote goes for nitto 555r 255/45/17's up front and some 275/40 555r Drag radials out back. Nitto DR's are basically a glorified street tire. Great traction and long life. 20-25k miles can easily be gotten out of nitto DR's. My buddy has 305/35/18 nitto DR's on his car and they are holding up great. He also puts down 420/360...

I don't want 555R's cause I hardly ever drag race it (on a track) and my street racing is usualy from a roll or highway. Rarely do I line up race, although maybe once a month. The car is a summer DD, I have fun with.

With that being said the R's run a lil smaller so 555's @ 255/45/17 all around, vs 255 front/ 275r's out back would make sense?
