Anyone here have experience with Coonhounds?

The guy that I have been seeing has a birthday coming up, we hang out in the same group of friends, and we all want to pitch in and get him coonhound pup for him.

I have been doing research on these dogs and am trying to learn all the terms and breeding of coonhounds/coonhunting.

Does anyone have one or any experience with them?

I am looking at Treeing Walker pups or a Bluetick pup. The friend he hunts with has a Walker and 2 Redbones. Any help/stories/etc. much appreciated!:thumbsup:

All the hunters in the hills love those blue tick hounds. I have to watch out for them while driving back home.

blue ticks make good dogs, I had one named music, She would out hunt any of our redbones, but redbones make good coon dogs also.

I spoke with a really helpful guy yesterday, he did tell me that I did not want to go with a redbone. He also told me that breeding is a big part of this, and told me that a Walker is faster than a Bluetick... but he breeds Walkers so I am sure that he is a tad partial.

the guy got my redbones from the mother and father to the pups were virginia night champions. So that tells you with the right training and the right genes they can all be good.
