Hey all, i had a thread posted about a year ago about best places to live in the US for jobs/weather etc.. It was clear that:

Texas, California and Florida were choices for requirements I was looking for...

Anybody here from those States work in I.T. or have any connections? I have about 10 years experience in I.T. mostly in hardware, deployment, security and networking. Education consists of: 2- Associates Degrees/ I.T. and Networking, 1- Bachelors degree / Computer Science, and 1- Masters Degree / Network Security.

Looking to relocate South as I have had it with Winters and easily have credentials for sponsorship. Just a matter of finding a decent company and getting an "in" somewhere.

If any fellow SVT members have any info or contacts and would be willing to help out a Canadian stay warm and enjoy his SVT year round please shoot me a PM.

I have my CV ready for anyone that is interested.

Good luck with the job hunt. Stay far away from Dell if you can.

IT here in So-Cal is dog eat dog. I've actually been in an interview for a job and the next day my best friend went in for an interview for the same position.

Post up on Monster and Hot jobs and scour them daily and assuming your skills are up to par you shouldn't have trouble finding something.

Good Luck, and don't forget to check out Qualcomm's listings, they are the largest IT employer save for SAIC (government) in So-Cal.

I'm in NJ but I work for Federal gov IT which is obviously nationwide. Check out usajobs.com and look for IT specialist positions. Can't beat the benefits at all!

I traveled to Atlanta many times at my old job and loved it. I would move there if my current job situation wasn't so good.

There is a lot of competition here in socal and it's expensive to live here, but you also get paid more. I dipped in IT for a little while and I still sort fo have a hand in it. You can't beat the weather here though.

Thanks for the input guys. It's hard searching without totally knowing all the areas but I am willing to take the risk. I lived in FL for 2 years and loved it there so I am sure I will be pretty happy in TX or CA as well. As long as there is year round vehicle driving and some water near by I'm good!

Is it true that pretty much all the IT positions require TS clearance?

Any other search engines you guys would recommend? I have been trying DICE.com and have looked at USAjobs but that one seems to be for US Citizens only.

Not all of them Jason, but for the most part yes. You would need that level just due to the classifications of some systems and the access working IT gives you.....

I'm in IT for the State Legislature in Austin, TX. The IT market is still pretty good here private sector, but state and city IT jobs are tough to find right now.

I could give your resume to someone in Charleston if ya wanted me to. It's a great place to live and everyone I know loves it here. As previously stated usajobs.com has lots of IT jobs, and several in the Charleston area.

good luck

JD

That would be great. I will send you a PM. SC doesn't have very many jobs from what i have seen but it is a desirable spot to be for sure!

Depends on what kind of I.T. work you are looking for but you could apply to the Big 4 accounting firms, they all have IT consulting divisions, and the starting salary for an associate is above $60k...managers probably are making $100k
