Alternator

Is the gt 500 alternator the same as the 4.6? Is it common with any other ford product?

Not that I can tell. Its voltage regulator contains an identifier code that is matched to the PCM. One for a 7.3l diesel pickup physically fits, but the computer will not correctly control its voltage and will return an error code. The one for the 4.6 is physically different mount.

Its even diffecult to come up with a mainstream aftermarket replacement. PA has them but not your auto parts stores. OEM dealer or Motorcraft dealer item.
