I got a hypertech 160 today and noticed something troubling.
1. the opening is much smaller than the stock thermostat. This will no doubt restrict coolant flow.

and 2. the most troubling. If you look at the thermostats on the bottom there is a ring that I believe works as a bypass valve to feed the heater core. This ring basically bypasses the radiator when its open so you get heat rite away. This is why theres so many hoses going to the stat housing.Well on the new thermostats the ring is very tiny so basically it allows lots of coolant to bypass the radiator and just recirculate back to the heater core.
Doesnt seem lika any company makes an exact themostat with the same flow and design..... Anyone else notice this problem. I didnt install the stat cause I fear It wont do what it supposed to... Am I Looking at this correctly????

Mmmm, I ran a Hypertech 160 for over a year with no obvious problems.

I've since refitted the stock stat.
