I'm thinking about replacing my stock 03-04 Cobra seats with some light weight aftermarket units. Unlike my old 5.0's that had the seat belts mounted to the transmission tunnel, my 03 Cobra has the seat belt attached to the seat slider/rack/frame.

What do you guys do about the seat belt mount when you install aftermarket seats??? Do you go ahead and drill into the transmission tunnel and mount them like the older Mustangs???

I was thinking about going with a "Cobra" brand seat that has a dedicated slider for the 99-04 Mustangs. Does anybody know if their sliders have a spot to attach the seat belt like on the original OEM unit???

Going with a seat brand that has addressed this problem would save alot of hassle and keep me from hacking up the Cobra's floor board etc.

Oh, and does anybody know if you can order the Cobra R manual seat slider racks by themselves??? And if so, would they attach to non-Cobra R seats??? Losing the driver's side power seat assembly would kill approx. 26 lbs...almost like upgrading to lighter seats???

03-04 Cobra seats:

Driver's side with slider & motor, ect....63 lbs, slider & motor. weigh 26 lbs!!!
Passenger side seat with maunal slider...43.4 lbs, slider weighs 9.8 lbs!!!

Thanks...

Later...Dave

Seat belt mounting posts don't attach to the seat sliders. They attach to the brackets (bases) that install between the sliders and the floor.

For aftermarket seat brackets with seat belt mounting posts, these folks can make what you need (scroll down to see brackets and application guide):

Seat sliders are generally brand-specific, sometimes model-specific. If you want to try to make '00R sliders work for some reason, they are the same ones as the sliders for the Recaro Sport and Speed model seats. You can find them here ...

I made a metal bracket that I bolted to the aftermarket seat frame. Took some work but it all worked out.

To be safe you should always secure your harnesses to the frame. What if when you get hit the seat detaches?? Then you are simply fastened to the seat/slider as it flies around.

I think it's a good idea to stick with the locations the manufacturers came up with after extensive crash testing.
