i have a 2001 stage 3 roush mustang (with mods)

the car puts down 371rwhp & 369rwtq (SAE)

below is my best time yet; however, i do run consistently 13.1-13.3 at around 106-108mph.

i guess i am happy with my time, however for some reason, i'm thinking the car should be running faster considering it's mph thru the traps.

also, i am shifting into 4th at about 100 yards from the finish line...would a 3:55 gear help me with that? the car is daily driven, so i do not want to go to a 4:10.

i know this is a SVT site, but i just thought perhaps some of the cobra owners with similar hp/tq might have some advice....i.e. launching, shift points, shift techniques, how to properly heat up the tires etc...

TIA,
jwhite

pertinent details:
5 speed
solid axle
3:73 gears
305/35/18 nitto drag radials @ 18psi
rev. limiter = 6400 rpms

My '93 cobra ran a 12.57 @ 110 with a 1.9X 60'. Your car has tons left in it. It should be in the low 12's at the track.

yeah, that is what i am hoping!
i forgot to add that i am a novice driver...i've only had the car about 4 months and have only made about 15 passes...

i definitely need some more seat time!

Man, you've got a WHOLE lot left in that car. Drive that thing like you stole it man. You've got 100 rwhp to the ground more than my ride and I'm only .35 seconds behind you, in the 1/8th, factoring in an identical 60 foot time. You need some hard launches and push for 11's with that beast.

because i'm shifting into 4th at about 150yds from the finish line, would a set of 3.55 gears help me stay in 3rd thru the line?
or,
do i need to adjust my shifting so i can get into 4th earlier?
i make maximum power at 5800rpm's in 4th gear...

the car had the 3.73's when i got it.
are there necessarily any advantages of the 3.73's over the 3.55's in a 370hp 5 speed?

i'm thinking the 3.73's are too much for my setup.

any thoughts?

TIA

At what RPMs are you shifting at? If you can ride 3rd gear out till the traps, try to. If not, switch to a 4.10. Don't fear the gear.

Also, I went to FFW at around 12-1pm on Saturday and I didn't see your car. Were you still there?

i shift right at 6200...
i think with the 18" rims/tires, i might need to drop down to the 3.55's (might make better gas mileage too)

i was there all day saturday and sunday...
i competed in the street ford class on saturday (won my first two races & lost the 3rd...either took 4th or 6th...b/c there were only 6 cars left when i lost)
it was my first time doing any type of bracket racing...i had much fun!

sunday i entered the car show (won 2 plaques)

i can't wait to go back next year...it was a fun time and i learned a lot!
