adjustable threaded hood stops

This may be a simple question but I cannot determine how to adjust the threaded hood stops (bumpers). My hood sits a little higher on the driver side. The threads are obviously locked somehow because they do not rotate freely when I attempt to turn them. I'm thinking they pull out so you can adjust them, then put them back in. Anyone know how this is accomplished?

Yes, it's adjustable.

Mine were very loose

maybe a previous owner used threadlocker on them
